Snype - Exclusive Interview & MP3s

What's good? This ya boy Snype. Born and raised in East Oakland, Ca. I moved all around the Bay Area but that's my native home. Currently in Vallejo, Ca.

What do you think of the modern Hyphy movement?

My thoughts on the movement is that it's an interesting time for the bay and the perfect time for new talent to show what they have. Ya know Hyphy has been in the bay since Keak Da Sneak and 3X Krazy, Too $hort and the many artists that paved the way for us new artists. Now since the sound changed from Mobb music to Hyphy, it's a more expansive business to get into. I do think it's playing out fast, but at least we had a time when the radio actually listened and played Bay music.

What did you listen to growing up?

I listened and grew up to that real Mobb music, that first bay sound. From Keak, Brotha Lynch, Mess, Black N Brown, Rappin 4-Tay and Spice 1. Also to Tupac, Suga Free, and of course Snoop and Dre. I listened to different genres too like Freestyle and Smooth Jazz just to keep the mind clear and open to different sound.

How did you get into music?

Mainly I wanted to just figure out how to do production. Around the 10th grade we had a Midi class. There I met up wit my boy Young Vicious and we just started workin on some music. I went to the military for a lil bit, got some bread to get my real studio time, and we just been workin on this music ever since. I also do graphic design.

How many albums do you have?

Myself I have 1 solo out, "Shiesty Takeover" and a group with Young Vicious called "Crunchtime." As a label we all have 6 releases out right now. Pushin to the limit!

What are you working on now?

Right now I am currently working on promoting and pushing my 2nd solo release for the beginning of 2010, "Million Dollar Hut". I've just been networking in the streets and the net cause I feel this might be the album that makes us known. This CD is real music for real people. Put my all into it too. Also I'm closing up my third album in December, "Gangsta Matik" coming mid 2010. got alotta features. Dont wanna name them yet but it's official like a ref wit a whistle!

Where can we get your music?

All my albums: "Shiesty Takeover" & "Crunchtime" are available everywhere.!! CDBaby, Itunes, Napster, Amazon, Rasputin's, Rapbay, Frisco Street Show. If ya local store doesn't have it...they can order it. And if they can't you can get it from me! | |

Who do you hope to work with in the future?

Hopefully Messy Marv, Berner, the Jacka, Mitchy Slick, and a lot more artists that are already out doin they thang.

What are you currently listening to?

I'm always listening to my CDs but I like that new Balance and Big Rich that came out called "Good As Money". I love real music. The Jacka's "Tear Gas" is raw too.

Sleep Close Death - Exclusive Interview & MP3

Michael Vick MP3

Where do you come from?

I'm from Buffalo. Buffalove. Its kind of the inspiration for the next album cause that relates to people living in the same spot their whole lives; you know the whole born and raised mentality. I'm guilty myself so it's gonna examine why you become a homebody. Plus there will be cat references but no more Michael Vick jokes cause I think I got those out of the way.

What inspired the title Shopping Mall Zombie Music?

My producer For Beat's Sake had this beat by the same name because the vibe reminded him of Night of the Living Dead/Dawn of The Dead. I originally was coming at it from like a serious zombie theme but that didn't feel right so I got more satirical with it. I mean if you really think about the title it's a double meaning in itself and wraps up the overall theme of the album pretty well.

What previous albums have you put out?

I released a free EP called The Sleep Close Death Ray still available on my Myspace for a limited time. Shopping Mall Zombie Music is my first full length legit album. My next album is already in development and is tentatively titled Homebodies. I'm also planning another free EP called The Sleep Close Death Trap.

How did the collaboration with Mac Lethal come about?

That song was one of the first things recorded for this album and went through many different phases before I decided on just using the original beat. I got a hold of Mac online before he released his debut 11:11 on Rhymesayers. We met in person I think a year or so later. The year after that we were slated to do a show together but the promoter f****d us both over by telling Mac there was no show but still putting the show on and taking the ticket money from me and the other acts. I'm not gonna name names but you know who you are.
